Sea turtle nesting places at Gerani beach

Gerani beach in late afternoon when the beach is even quieter than usual. Note the fences on the beach (I can count 5 or 6 in the picture). They're what I call "turtle runways": when a sea turtle nest is nearing time to hatch, volunteers from Archelon dig straw mats into the sand to form a "new born turtle runway" that will take the hatchlings in the proper direction to the sea (and not towards hotel lights).
