Sougia beach

Sougia beach

Many people consider Sougia to have one of the best beaches in the West of Crete. Though it's not a sandy beach (with exotic pink sand!) the relaxed atmosphere, the lack of crowds even in peak season and the beautiful sea more make up for this.

Type of beach: coarse sand / pebbles

Size of beach: 1.2 km

Crowds: it's a long wide beach that never feels crowded

Winds: generally not very windy

Facilities

Sunbeds and umbrellas - in a few sections of the beach

Changing room - only a few

Shower - yes

Safe for children - generally not many waves but the sea drops quickly

Car parking - along the beach front

Nude beach: the eastern end of Sougia beachis clothing optional.

Getting there

75 km (90 minutes) by car from Chania. A few daily public buses as well as a ferryboat along the coast.

Eating & drinking

Several cafés / snack bars near the beach as well as a great choice of good tavernas in the village
