Kalathas beach is located in a small bay on the Akrotiri peninsula, to the East of Chania. Its shallow and clear water and beautiful golden sand make it very popular with locals and visitors alike.
One downside of Kalathas beach is that it is located right under Chania airport's flight path so you can have a fair bit of airplane noise at times.
Type of beach: fine sand
Size of beach: about 300 m long
Crowds: can get pretty busy especially at weekends as the beach is popular with Chania residents.
Winds: reasonably sheltered but can be affected by North winds
Sunbeds and umbrellas, a few showers, changing cabin, life guard
Safe for children: the beach is shallow so it's great for children but the beach is open to the North winds and could have fairly big waves at times.
Car parking: by the beach. It can easily get very busy so you might need to park fiurther away
Easy to get to by car. Limited bus service from Chania (on the bus that goes to Stavros).
A café/taverna and a beach cantina right on the beach.
