Gerani is a small resort immediately to the West of the much larger and busier Platanias. Apart from a couple of large hotels there are also small family hotels and apartments scattered around. Gerani beach is generally very peaceful especially if you're not right in front of one of the larger hotels.
The beach is also a nesting place of Caretta caretta sea turtles from June to September.
Type of beach: a mix of coarse sand and pebbles
Size of beach: around 2 km long and very wide
Crowds: the beach never feels crowded
Winds: can be affected by North winds but because the sand is coarse it won't blow into your eyes.
Sunbeds and umbrellas, a few showers connected to the few hotels that are by the beach
Safe for children: not safe if there are waves though generally there are no currents. The water drops quickly.
Car parking: easy parking at the access roads to the beach
Regular buses from and to Chania. 13 km from Chania (around 15-20 minutes drive by car)
A few restaurants near the beach or in the hotels by the beach
