Weather in Crete in September

September signals the end of the hot summer. Whilst temperatures are still high during the day they are rarely much above 30°C and nights get cooler making September a generally more pleasant month to visit Crete than July or August. It is also common to have a little bit of (much needed) rain once or twice in September.

The sea temperatures remain high at around 24°C.

The table below lists weather averages in September for 7 towns of Crete.

Note that these weather stations are located near the sea, more or less at sea level and they generally get less rain than inland locations, especially higher up. Temperatures in hills and mountain areas can be considerably cooler.

Winds: Winds are extremely dependant on the specific location at which you are so I prefered to avoid any wind averages because they will be misleading. If you want to study wind statistics for Crete please check the Advanced Wind Rose on this paper.
