Kalyves beach

Kalyves beach

Kalyves is located 19 km to the East of Chania. Unlike places like Almyrida or the resorts to the West of Chania it is a proper "working" village with a good size local population, shops, cafés and tavernas that function all year around. Kalyves also offers a fair amount of tourist accommodation near its excellent beaches.

Type of beach: sand

Size of beach: two beaches. The one to the West of the village is a little over 1 km in length. The beach to the East of the village is a little over 300 m long.

Crowds: The eastern beach being smaller and closer to the village can get busy. The longer western beach (Kiani Akti beach and Glaros beach) is long and wide and never feels crowded.

Winds: the beach is in the Bay of Souda so relatively well protected from winds and waves.

Facilities

Sunbeds and umbrellas, a few showers and toilets, life guards

Safe for children: the sea is generally quiet and fairly shallow close to tbe beach

Car parking: easy parking along and near the beaches

Getting there

Well connected to the road network. Some public buses from Chania.

Eating & drinking

The beach is lined with cafés and tavernas and there are plenty of good choices.
