Sougia has been popular as a holiday destination for well over three decades but it has managed to remain a small and quiet village.
Location of Sougia
75 km from Chania on a scenic winding road. One, two or three buses a day depending on the time of the year.
Very laid back and relaxing place.
Plenty of good accommodation but it can get full up at times (especially in high season and weekends) so reserving a room is highly recommended, especially if you have something specific in mind.
Several very good restaurants
Minimal but it will cover basic needs. Note that there are no ATMs, no petrol stations and no pharmacy.
A couple of pleasant bars and a discotheque (open only in summer) on the outside of the village.
Sougia has a long beach (long enough that it never feels crowded even in high season) which varies between coarse sand and pebbles. About one third of the beach is clothing optional. One of the few beaches in West Crete still without sun beds and umbrellas. See more about the beach here.
