Springtime in Omalos

A view of Pachnes across the gorge of Samaria from the path that leads to Gingilos. The tree with fresh leaves is Acer sempervirens or Cretan maple. Contrary to what its name indicates it is not endemic to Crete but is found in southern Greece and southern Turkey.
To add to the confusion despite the fact that it is called sempervirens (Latin for evergreen) at these altitudes (here at around 1300 m) it does lose its leaves in winter.
