Centaurea spinosa

Whilst taking photos on Gerani beach I noticed that the "backside" of the large bushes of Centaurea spinosa had what seemed like growth rings on them so that you could probably tell the age of the plant by the number of rings. The bare side of the bushes was on the North side where the prevailing winds blow, the leafy (at the moment, it becomes more spiny later in the summer) side was facing south.
