Painted Minoan faience plaques

An assemblage of painted faience plaques, probably from the inlaid decoration of a piece of luxury wooden furniture. The compostion depicts houses of a town in a natural landscape with animals and human figures. Of particular interest are the architectural details of the houses presented, such as the ashlar masonry, timber, doors and multiple windows. Rectangular structures on the rooftops probably housed the staircase.

This is of course now housed in the Heraklion Archeaological Museum. The new fully renovated museum is a really wonderful place and well worth several visits.
