Anemone coronaria is very common flower in Crete and is found in olive groves, fallow and abandoned fields. The flowers come in a great variety of colours, most commonly violet, purple, mauve, red, blue and white. There are also some bicoloured forms.
The plants start flowering in December (at sea level) and carry on until May in higher areas. Different colour types will not flower at the same time so that they can form multicoloured carpets of flowers in which one colour will be dominant at one time and another colour later.
