The road to Seitan Limania

Stephanou beach

A road leads to nowhere on the northern part of Akrotiri. The beach which you can see in the centre of the photo is called Seitan Limania (Devil harbours) or Stephanou beach. It can be reached walking down a steep path from the end of the road. Why this road was ever built is a complete mystery to me as it seems to serve no useful purpose whatsoever (except possibly to line up someone's pockets).

The second photo shows the beach seen from the end of the road. You'll notice that an old path is built in the side of the hill (this is not the current route down to the beach). It seems that at some point the area had some significance. That path looks too good to be only a smuggler's route. If anyone knows the history of the area I'd be really interested in hearing about it.
