Sunrise from the summit of Pachnes  - 2nd July 2007

View from the summit of Pachnes (2453m) at sunrise.

In the top picture the mountains on the left are Volakias, Gingilos and Psilafi to the West of the gorge of Samaria. The ridge in the foreground is still part of Pachnes (leading to the 'western summit' which can be seen in the right of the picture).

In the bottom picture I am looking towards the West and Southwest. In the right of the picture you can still see the range of Volakias (Gingilos is just out of the picture) towering above the gorge of Samaria. The mountain on the left that has just been touched by the sun is Zaranokefala (above the village of Agios Ioannis on the plateau of Anopolis). The dark slightly flattened pyramid between the two mountains is the shadow of Pachnes in the rising sun. It is projected on the haze on the horizon.
