Weather in Crete in July

July is the hottest month of the summer. The sun shines relentlessly and it almost never rains (maybe a short rain shower every few years). Fortunately a northerly breeze (called Etesians or Meltemi) often cools the air a little.

The sea temperature is around 24°C and spending a long time in the sea is a nice way to escape the heat.
The vegetation is now dry at sea level but you can still see greenery in the mountains or in areas that have springs and small streams.

The table below lists weather averages in July for 7 towns of Crete.

Note that these weather stations are located near the sea, more or less at sea level and they generally get less rain than inland locations, especially higher up. Temperatures in hills and mountain areas can be considerably cooler.

Winds: Winds are extremely dependant on the specific location at which you are so I prefered to avoid any wind averages because they will be misleading. If you want to study wind statistics for Crete please check the Advanced Wind Rose on this paper.
