August day time temperatures are approximately as high as in July but the evenings start to cool off a little, especially towards the end of the month. Rain is a very unusual occurence.
The sea continues to warm up and reaches its highest temperature of the year (around 25°C, and even warmer in shallow areas).
The table below lists weather averages in August for 7 towns of Crete.
Note that these weather stations are located near the sea, more or less at sea level and they generally get less rain than inland locations, especially higher up. Temperatures in hills and mountain areas can be considerably cooler.
