The White Mountains in winter |
|
The tourist season on Crete (from April to October)
is also the dry season and most summer visitors do not realize that
Crete, especially the West of Crete, has more rainfall per year than
most areas of northern Europe: it may rain only 50 or 60 days a year
but it really pours! This means snow at higher altitude and there
can be up to 4 or 5 meters of snow in the higher areas at the end
of the winter. High up the snow will last well into the summer. When
we tell this to summer visitors they find it hard to believe. Below
is the proof!
