The summit of Pachnes is quite close to the gorge of Samaria which can be seen at the forefront. It is separated from it by another deep gorge, the gorge of Eligas, which runs so close to the foot of Pachnes that it can't be seen from its summit. In the background of this picture you can also distingush the peninsula of Paleochora, quite a distance away.
