The gorge of Aradena, west of Hora Sfakion, used to be considered a difficult gorge because of a passage that had to be negotiated with a rope (and for some years after that a metal ladder). Now there is a new path around this tricky part but you still need to be sure-footed to walk this gorge safely. It is easier walking up than down and the 700m ascent, spread over the length of the gorge is not very noticeable.
