The area known as Pavlia Xalara is located in the central White
Mountains between Grias Soros and the northern part of the Ammoutsera
valley. It is one of the most inhospitable parts of the mountains,
a moonscape of black, grey, red and white rocks with deep hollows.
Shepherds and their flocks avoid it.
For now, a few panoramas of the area. I'll be spending more time
in it this summer so you can expect more photos and impressions from
this "desert in the desert".
Click on the images to enlarge. Large panoramas will open in a new
window. They are up to 8600 pixels in width so make sure that you
have "Image resize" switched off in your browser if you
want to see the real size of the photos. And if you only have a dialup
connection, be patient, they are up to 2Mb in size.

The above picture is a 180° panorama which runs from Chorafas
Korfi (first summit left) then Trohari, and Sternes to Grias Soros,
Pavli and finally a ridge north of Kakovoli at the far right
This is a 360° image starting at Mavri Lakki then Kakovoli (first
summit left) and ending at Kastro on the right. Take a map and work
out what's in between! The photo was taken on a nameless ridge north
of Kakovoli)

This image was taken close to the south side of Grias Soros and
encompasses (from left to right) Svourikti (2356m) then Mesa Soros
(2345m), Grias Soros (2331m) and finally Askifiotikos Soros (2210m)

This is a slightly over 360° image starting at Grias Soros (first
conical peak on the left) then Pavlia (in the foregorund with the
summit cut off) then Kastro, Kakovoli and ending with the western
slope of Grias Soros again. This was taken standing to the south
of Pavlia peak.
