Sougia

Sougia

Sougia has been popular as a holiday destination for well over two decades but it has managed to remain a small and quiet village.

Getting there:  75 km from Chania on a scenic winding road. One or two buses a day depending on the time of the year.

Atmosphere:   Very laid back and relaxing place.

Accommodation:   Plenty of good accommodation but it can get full up at times (high season and weekends) so just turning up and looking for a room is not always a good idea.

Restaurants:   Several very good restaurants.

Shopping:   Minimal but it will cover basic needs.

Activities:   Some very good walks are possible in the area.

Nightlife:   A couple of bars and a discotheque (only in summer) on the outside of the village.

Beach:   Sougia has a long beach (long enough that it never feels crowded even in high season) which varies between coarse and very fine pebbles. About one third of the beach is clothing optional. One of the few beaches in West Crete still without sun beds and umbrellas.
