Kalathas, on the peninsula of Akrotiri, is not really a village
but a fairly new, quiet settlement, mainly for people who wanted
to move out of Chania. It has seen a lot of building activity in
recent years as more and more Cretans are moving out of town.
Getting there: Located
12 km from Chania with limited public transport. Better to have
a car
Atmosphere: Quiet
residential area without much atmosphere.
Accommodation: Some
hotels, studios and apartments.
Find accommodation in Kalathas
Restaurants: Only
two restaurants by the beach, closed in winter
Shopping: There
are two small supermarkets
Nightlife: You'll
need to go to Chania for this, Kalathas doesn't even have a kafeneion
(but there is a beach bar open in summer).
Beach: Beautiful sandy
beach with shallow water (great for children). It is getting a
little too popular with the Cretans because of its proximity to
Chania and getting very busy in summer.
Additional comments: Occasional
airplane noise due to the airport nearby. |
