The word 'resort' doesn't really apply to many places
in West Crete. Tourists will stay mainly in villages that have grown
to provide some tourist accommodation and facilities. The only exception
is the stretch of coast between Chania and Platanias (an gradually
a little further beyond) which has been almost entirely built up
with hotels, apartments, studios and all the other accompaniments
such as shops and restaurants.
