Georgioupolis is a small village located by a very long sandy beach.
There are now many hotels built along that beach. Although the village
is now entirely geared towards catering for the tourists it remains
quite attractive with its small fishing harbour, its river and large
eucalyptus trees. |
Getting there: Georgioupolis
is located right by the national road between Chania and Rethymnon.
Good connections by public transport.
Atmosphere: Dominated by
the package tour crowd but the village is still pleasant.
Accommodation: A lot
of accommodation but many of the hotels deal mainly with package
tours. Independent travelers are more likely to find places in or
near the village.
Restaurants: A lot
of the visitors eat in their hotels but there are also quite a few
restaurants in the village.
Shopping: A number
of shops catering for tourists.
Nightlife: Some bars
and maybe a discotheque.
Beach: The longest
sandy beach in West Crete (9 km) where you can still find quiet spots.
The sea can be dangerous at times.
