Holidays in Almirida and Plaka

Almirida

Almirida (or Almyrida) is a small village with a pleasant shallow beach located in the bay of Souda. Further up the hill (and 10 minutes on foot from the beach), the village of Plaka is also popular because it is very quiet with splendid views of the bay of Souda and the White Mountains.

Getting there:   Limited public transport so it is best to have your own car if you want to move around. Almirida is located 25 km from Chania with buses 2 or 3 times a day only.

Atmosphere:   Almirida is still pretty laid back although tourism has become well developed.

Accommodation:   New hotels have been built in the past few years so there is plenty to choose from.

Restaurants:   A few good restaurants.

Shopping:   Basic. You will find more in Kalives, 4 km away.

Nightlife:   A couple of bars.

Beach:   A pleasant sandy beach with shallow water. The beach is small and can easily feel crowded.

Almirida on the web:   Almirida,   Historical and Folk Art Museum of Gavalohori
