Field of Crocus sieberi

Crocus sieberi as a species is not endemic, as it has subspecies in mainland Greece, but C. sieberi subsp. sieberi is
endemic to the mountains of Crete where it is very common in the spring near the area where the snow is just melting. It grows at altitudes ranging from 1000 to 2200m. It can be found as early as February in lower areas (around 1000 or 1100m) and as late as June high up where there is still snow.
