Berberis cretica or Cretan barberry is an extremely spiny deciduous thorn bush growing in the mountains above 900 m. It is found mainly in rocky locations and in flat clayey doline bottoms and flowers in May and June. The multitudes of tiny yellow flowers can look really nice - as long as you don't get too close to the bushes. Later in the summer the plant produces tiny very dark blue berries which are eaten by birds.
