Anemone coronaria

Anemone coronaria is very common plant in Crete, and is found in olive groves, fallow and abandoned fields. Ther flowers come in a great variety of colours, most commonyl violet, purple, mauve, red,  bule and white. There are also so bicoloured  forms.

The plants start flowering in December (at sea level) and carry on until May in higher areas. Different colour forms will not flower at the same time so that they can form multicoloured carpets of flowers in which one colour will be dominant  at one time and another colour later.
