The cities have a few shops with a fair choice of
photographic equipment and you can really buy most things from simple
cameras to the latest semi-professional digital cameras but it is
not cheap. In fact, when you get into specialist items you will often
pay substantially more than in other countries. I believe that if
you need a simple camera the prices are comparable with what you
would pay elsewhere in Europe.
The same goes for film: it is maybe a little bit more expensive
than elsewhere but not by much, unless you want something that is
not a very common product, professional slide film for example.
If you bring your own supply bear in mind that in the summer months the heat
may damage your film, especially slides.
Film processing also tends to be more on the expensive side but
the quality has generally improved over the past few years.
You can get your photos processed and printed in a lot of places,
at least in the cities. There are plenty of Quickfilm, QuickPhotos
and similar shops promising one hour processing and printing (and
generally not delivering, but at least they will do it on the same
day).
Film processing and printing is a little more expensive than in the rest of
Europe and I am still looking for a place that does really good work. Not that
it is much worse than elsewhere: negatives are often developed in old solution
and you end up with specks of dust in them (well noted: not ON them, they are
IN the negatives), slides are often handled carelessly and you have to clean
their surface. Print quality is generally OK. and most shops will print from
digital memory as well.
There is no professional film processing and printing service available
that I know of.
If you have problems with your camera, there is a shop that will
probably be able to fix it. They also do lens and camera cleaning
- quick service and good price, unless of course you need parts.
