Cypress tree (cupressus sempervirens)  - 6th December 2006

Most of the cypresses growing near the tree line (generally somewhere around 1700m on the south slopes of the White Mountains) are ancient gnarled beings hanging precariously to the slopes or, sometimes, creeping on them like wounded animals.

I pass them often and have admired and photographed them for a long time but still, time and again, a new one catches my attention and I need to stop and take one more photo.

The picture at the bottom with my (not small) car is to give an idea of the size of them. They may look like bonsai but they are no pot plants!
