Spiny broom (Calicotome villosa)

Spiny broom (Calicotome villosa) is very common in the Cretan phrygana and starting to flower everywhere now. The flowers have a beautiful, strong scent which easily permeates the landscape. Don't come too close to this gorgeous plant though: it has long, very sharp thorns.
