Night in the Cretan mountains
 

The central White Mountains are one of the few areas left that doesn't suffer any light pollution at all. At night there is simply no source of light apart from the stars. Combine this with the clear Mediterranean skies and the altitude and you get amazing night skies. This photo (of the summit ridge of Svourichti) doesn't do justice to it but it is an attempt at conveying the magic of a Cretan mountain sky..
