I recently came across a very large, very old olive tree near the village of Kambanos (in the district of Selino). It is hard to judge size of a tree in a photo which is why I asked someone to look through a hole in the trunk. That will give you an idea of the scale. The age of olive trees seems to be related to their diameter and I think that this one is almost as large as the olive tree of Vouves (I had no measuring tape so I am guessing here) which is supposed to be the oldest olive tree in Crete and is said to be between 3000 and 4000 years old. It is not possible to date olive trees exactly but this one is really ancient.
