The lower part of the gorge of Eligias viewed from the sea. The gorge is located less than two kilometers away from the gorge of Samaria. In fact the ridge that you see in the left part of the image is the only thing separating the two. Its entrance is a little hidden by a rocky promontory (visible in the centre of the photo above the sand drift). The gorge of Eligias is shorter than Samaria but it starts at a higher altitude (around 1500m) so on the whole it descends much more steeply.
