I wish you a happy new year and a wonderful new decade.
This is also a new decade for this site: west-crete.com was registered as a domain a little over 10 years ago but I started the site itself over the Christmas period of 1999 and put the first pages online in early 2000. How time flies.
I also realized recently that the "Daily photo of Crete" is already 6 years old. I started that feature in December 2003 and I never thought at the time that I would keep at it for so long. And I will continue for the foreseeable future. It is a lot of work but also great fun. So keep coming back, I'll be there :-)
As for the photo above...I wanted to use a flower for the 1st of January but it got very windy this afternoon so I could not take close-ups of wild flowers (in macrophotgraphy your depth of field is so narrow that the slightest movement will move the subjext out of focus). Instead I took a flower pot that is on my terrace and happens to be flowering right now inside and photographed it in a controlled environment. I have no idea what the flower is but I don't think that it grows in the wild in Crete.
