The Mediterranean Architecture Centre (KAM) - 26th February 2009
The Mediterranean Architecture Centre (KAM)
Administered by the municipality of Chania, the Mediterranean Architecture Centre (KAM) is located on the Chania sea front. It is housed in a building called "Megalo Arsenali".
Originally the end unit of the terrace of Venetian arsenals, it was altered in the Ottoman period by cutting off the barrel vaulted roof, inserting intermediate walls and putting on a roof. This became the town hall of Chania and later it was used as the school of the Christian community in the late 19th century.
Badly bombed in 1941 it was restaured in the 1990s and became the Mediterranean Architecture Centre.
