A mountain cricket?

 

Now what on earth is that? I spend a lot of time in the White Mountains but this is the first time that I see an insect like this, several of them in fact, walking around in full sunshine in the scree, at about 2400 metres altitude. It looks like a cricket. If anyone has a more precise idea, please let me know.
