The old kalderimi crossing the gorge of Aradena - 27th April 2007
The old kalderimi crossing the gorge of Aradena
A kalderimi is an old paved path. It comes from the Turkish
KALDIRIM which means footpath or pavement .
From the numerous kalderimia (does the Greek plural form apply
to such a word?) on the island this is the best kept example
that I know. Possibly because it was in use until the 1980s
when the bridge across the gorge was built. Possibly because
it linked what were at times two important "cities" (Aradena
and Anopolis)
The yellowish-green bush in the foreground is my favourtie
euphorbia: Euphorbia acanthothamnos or Greek spiny spurge).
