The plateau of Omalos after a snowfall - 6th February
View from Omalos towards the Samaria gorge and beyond
A pond on the plateau of Omalos
I know that there are a few people eagerly awaiting the
first snow pictures of the year. This winter has been exceptionally
dry and warm so far but it turned cold with rain a couple of
days ago and these are the results in the mountains: the top
photo is taken about 200 or 300m above Xyloskla (the entrance
to the gorge of Samaria). It took me a little while to get
there because the snow was almost waist deep in places and
very powdery so not easy walking at all.
The face of Gingilos is to the right of the picture.
Pachnes and Zaranokefala are right behind the dead cypress.
The second picture is a little more unusual (at least for
me) in showing the reflection of the hills in the partly frozen
pond located along Seliniotiko Giros (to the South of the plateau
I have a few more snow pictures in store for tomorrow and
the follwing days.
