Cape Spatha on Rodopou peninsula - 1st February
2007
The northwest of the peninsula of Rodopou
The view from the top of the hill
This is the north end of Crete - on the horizon
is the peninsula of Akrotiri near Chania
The very long peninsula of Rodopou ends with a pointed hill
(see top picture) 370m above the sea. Cape Spatha is a windy,
desolate place with a number of trenches, fortifications and
large guns platforms (German I guess) dating back to WWII.
I suppose that being at the very northern tip of Crete it was
considered to be a place of strategical importance.
