Shrine of Agios Antonios near Patsos
The shrine of Agios Antonios displays an unusual number
of votive offerings (see near the top of the picture and especially
the stack of crutches). Obviously powerful magic is expected
and it is not surprising to learn that
the location - in a narrow gorge - was a spring
(as in water, not season!) sanctuary dating back at least to
the Late Minoan period and used until Roman times with a
cult of Hermes Kranaios.
