Dragon arum (Dracunculus vulgaris) - 29th May 2006
Dragon arum (Dracunculus vulgaris)
A dragon arum ( (Dracunculus vulgaris) on the old kalderimi
joining Anopolis to Aradena.
This large flower (I have seen
some that were over 80cm in size) will produce the smell of
rotting meat for a short period during its flowering in order
to attract flies. This is not in order to eat them (despite
its "dangerous" appearance it is not a carnivorous plant) but
to disperse the plant's pollen.
