The valley of Potamos from the western summit of Pachnes -
16th May 2006
On Pachnes
Back in my office after two weeks in the south-west of Crete.
The picture above was taken last Sunday from the western summit
of Pachnes. The people in the picture are looking towards the
north. About 700 meters below (at an altitude of about 1700
meters) is the valley of Potamos and just beyond the ridge
is the valley of Kalokampos - the large side gorge of Samaria.
The summit in the centre right of the pic is Melindaou. There
is only very little snow left in the mountains. In fact it
feels more like late June than the middle of May.
