Juniper tree in Elafonisos

 

Juniper trees are a landmark of Elafonisos. I have noticed that the larger ones have now been fenced off. I know that tourism is a threat for these pretty rare trees (they grow on beaches and coastal areas) but I am not sure what the fencing off is going to do for them.
The one in the picture is not fenced off (still free!) which is why it appealed more to me.
