Cultural activities

Apart from museums and galleries I cannot keep a regular update of events. Unfortunately, the sites that have taken on this task such as the site of the Municipality of Chania don't seem to bother with updates so you will have to find out once you are in Crete by asking around.

Museums are the main repositories of culture in Crete and where most visitors head for when wanting a little bit of culture, if only because it is easier to find them than other cultural events and exhibitions.

Galleries there are a few galleries in Chania listed below

  • Tzamia Kristalla - Skalidi Street - private gallery with exhibitions by Greek artists
  • Milonogianni - Trikoupi Street - private gallery with exhibitions by Greek artists
  • Omma - El. Venizelos Street- private gallery with exhibitions by Greek and foreign artists
  • Pinakothiki - Halidon Street - municipal gallery with a set exhibition of paintings as well as special exhibitions
  • Giali Tsamii - the mosque on Chania harbour sporadically hosts exhibitions
  • Mediterranean Institute of Architecture on the harbour front is a new exhibition space with occasional exhibitions

Artists (please email if you want to be listed)

Cultural events the site of the Municipality of Chania lists cultural events, even has a search page, but the updates seem very rare making the page virtually useless. Greek Ministry of Culture has a good web site which covers Greece as the whole. Same for Culture guide which has an event search facility that actually works.
