Flower of the month | July | Anchusa cespitosa

In the summer months most of the low level vegetation has dried out and there are far less flowers than in the spring months. Up in the high mountains it’s a different story: June and July is still spring time (there might have been snow in many places until late June) and the best period to see some really interesting flowers.
Anchusa cespitosa is considered to be a rare endemic flower of the White Mountains but if you go to the right area – for example the high desert of the southern White Mountains, preferably between 1900m and 2100m – you will find it growing in large numbers.

With their intense, almost unnatural, blue colour the flowers are impossible to miss and will leave you with a lasting memory of what many consider to be one of the most beautiful flowers in Crete.
